|
As part of its commitment to achieving world's best practice, the Commonwealth adopted a limited certification period of 5 years so that diver competency levels are reviewed at reasonable time intervals. This renewal requirement is consistent with other international diver certification schemes and was implemented to ensure that ADAS (and, therefore ADAS divers), maintains it's high level of professional standing.
At the end of each five year period, divers must apply to renew their ADAS accreditation and certify that they remain competent. Accreditation will be renewed on the basis of the diver certifying that he/she has retained their diving competency over the previous period of accreditation. Renewing divers must be able to establish on request by ADAS (eg, by log book and/or similar evidence demonstrating current practice in diving and/or other relevant activities) how the relevant skills and knowledge identified by ADAS in the relevant ADAS Diver Competence standard have been maintained. ADAS will conduct random audits of renewing divers requiring such verification. An inability to satisfactorily certify and/or demonstrate such competency will result in the diver being required to undertake an approved form of currency updating or, failing this, to surrender his/her Certificate of Competency. Divers must bear in mind that making a false declaration is an offence under law and punishable by a fine, imprisonment or both. If divers have been inactive over the period and are unable to satisfactorily demonstrate such currency, they may elect to undertake a form of currency updating, to be negotiated with the ADAS National Manager.
Regarding endorsements: The ADAS card includes a list of diving-related endorsements (eg, Nitrox, Diver Trainer, Life Support Technician, Hard Suit pilot, Chamber Operator). This is provided for completeness and for information only - it has no legal significance. If you wish to claim for any of these endorsements, please provide certified copies of certificate(s) of qualification in support of your claims.
To renew your ADAS accreditation and obtain a new card, please: The form for application of renewal can be found by clicking FORMS onthe front page of the website or as the first item on the Information for Divers page. Printed identification details (name, address and phone number) for the JP or equivalent must be included. Provide 2 current colour passport photographs with your name printed on the back. Please do not staple through the image area of the photograph, and ensure that biro or ink from the signatures on the back of the photographs does not imprint onto the image area. This photographic image will be scanned onto your new ADAS plastic card - the quality and appearance of your card to a large degree depends on you.
